Overcoming Insecurities

What is insecurity?

Google dictionary defines insecurity as "uncertainty or anxiety about oneself: lack of confidence". This is definitely a topic that is universal to all people. Insecurity does not discriminate. I face it.

Why do we face insecurity?

So why do we face insecurity? Honestly, insecurity comes from separation from God and finding our identities in ungodly things.  I truly believe that. As humans, without Christ especially, we allow our identity to be shaped by our mistakes and experiences. Which those things definitely do mold us, they do not define us. Listen y'all, I would absolutely hate if other people identified me by my mistakes and past so why should I do so to myself?

Instead of telling you that you should find your identity in Christ, I am going to give you evidence and reminders of who you are in Christ. Step by step, walking in trust, love, and forgiveness, we can overcome.

  • Lift up your eyes and look to the Heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Isaiah 40:26
To overcome insecurity, you and I must first have to look towards God. Everything falls into place after that. When you start viewing above things, you start living to the heavenly standards.

  •  For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14

You are no longer defined by sin. Sin is no longer your master. Shake off that identity and shake off that insecurity. You are secure under grace.

  • But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things that people look at. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7
If appearance is something you're insecure about and struggle with then this verse is for you ( I struggle with it). This verse is only a small part of this story, but it is still true. God knows your heart. He knows your beauty. Your identity can be found in that. You are beautiful inside and out! Glory to God!
  • And you will know the truth and the truth will set your free. John 8:32
I chose this last verse to just remind you that your insecurities are not the truth. God is truth. Truth will absolutely set you free. You are chosen, worthy, righteous, loved, and beautiful.

I have to say that everybody's insecurities are different. I can't say that mine are the same as yours. This means the way we face our insecurities are completely different. However, God's love for us is all the same. Finding our identity in him is extremely important. Little by little, we can face our identities, and we can trust God. Walk in trust, love, and forgiveness so we can overcome.
